Hindu Dharma

What is Dharma?

There are many misconceptions about Dharma. Some view it as mere religion, while others dismiss it. However, Dharma (Righteousness) is not confined to Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, or Buddhism. It refers to the eternal principles that sustain society, guide human behavior, and uplift the soul.

Types of Dharma

Samanya Dharma (general duties) includes virtues such as mercy, truth, self-control, purity, non-violence, service to the Guru, compassion, honesty, and honoring Deities and Brahmins. These universal principles are applicable to all, regardless of caste or creed.

Dharmasiddhant

Dharma has doctrines but no arbitrary rules. Rules may change, but doctrines are eternal. Since God is timeless, the doctrines of attaining Him remain unchanged. Thus, Dharma itself is eternal and unchanging. – H.H. Kane Maharaj, Narayangaon, Pune

Hindu Dharma

The Merutantra defines ‘Hindu’ as one who destroys inferior Raja-Tama qualities and embraces Sattva. True Hindu Dharma means rejecting base tendencies and living a life centered on God-realisation and devotion.

Importance of Dharma

Dharma sustains social order, promotes material well-being, and leads to spiritual growth. Its vastness lies in harmonizing worldly duties with eternal spiritual progress, making it the foundation of human life.

Hindu Gods and Goddesses

Hindu Dharma reveres numerous Deities, each with unique missions and attributes. From Shri Ram and Shri Krishna (Avatars of Vishnu) to forms of Shakti like Durga Devi, and the protective Kuladevatas (Family Deities), each represents Divine principles guiding humanity.
